Welcome to this space!
I’m Karen Lira, founder of Trendin, my marketing agency.
I’m 26 years old and I say that to remind my peers
that ambition has no age.
In this short chronicle, I want to share when and how I knew it
was time to build something of my own.
I grew up in my mother’s papelería — a school supply shop in Mexico — where I spent my afternoons pretending to be a teacher. That space sparked my curiosity and love for learning, so much so that I started school early and I was always the youngest in every classroom.
At 17, I entered university with a special permit, surrounded by peers in their late 20s already working in exciting roles in agencies, on TV, in the creative world. I craved that experience.
So I jumped in. I worked across different areas and agencies, gaining hands on experience and clarity. And eventually, I knew:
I wanted to lead, not follow.
That decision came from a few truths:
- A deep desire to understand how things work — from finance and legal matters to numbers and operations. I wanted to learn what it truly takes to reach a goal: to meet suppliers, to understand the foundations, to grasp the business at its core.
- I never quite fit into just one box. I’ve come to believe that some people are born to know a bit of everything — and those are the ones who can lead. They’re the ones who can identify and surround themselves with experts, and bring the right people
along for the journey. - I wanted to craft my own narrative. To build a company where
my voice, my perspective, and my expertise could serve as pillars
not just for me, but for others walking this path beside me. - Experience. After five years in the industry, I found not only experience but the right partners, co-founders who remind
me daily that we can take on any challenge.
And yes, you need money to start. But not all at once. You build brick by brick with consistency, patience, and vision.
Be your own fuckin’ best friend,
Kali
